Research Notes

Short Canadian-only conscript record. The service file explicitly treats 16 July 1918 as the enlistment/attestation date (recruit papers, Hollerith extract and Last Pay Certificate). He physically reported/joined the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment at Montreal on 21 August 1918, from which date the casualty form says service reckons. For discharge, 1 February 1919 is retained as the date of the signed demobilization renunciation and the date shown on the Last Pay Certificate, while 5 February 1919 is used as the final S.O.S./discharge date because it is corroborated by the casualty form, Hollerith extract and demobilization receipts.
