Research Notes

Recruitment dates represent separate events rather than conflicting enlistment dates. The recruit declaration was signed 18 May 1918, the summary card says attested at Montreal 18 May, and the casualty form says enlisted and service reckons from 18 May. The MSA Medical History Sheet records medical examination and joining-processing on 25 May. Accordingly p_enlistmentDate remains 18 May 1918, with 25 May retained separately in chronology. Likewise, 17 Jun 1918 is the effective S.O.S./discharge date; 17 Aug 1918 (D.O. #228) and 22 Apr 1919 (confirmation) are later administrative dates.
