Research Notes
The service file is unusually explicit regarding desertion. Page 7 states 'S.O.S. as Deserter' on 22-9-18 and lists cause of discharge as 'Deserter', authority Court of Inquiry. Page 15 records the deserter action at Montreal under D.O. 331 with date 23-9-18. These are treated as an effective termination date of 22 Sep 1918 followed by the related administrative/order date of 23 Sep. The MSA medical sheet confirms examination at Montreal on 23 Aug 1918 and enrollment on 24 Aug 1918. The Canadian Officers Training Corps / Université Laval stamp on the casualty form is not supported by any transfer entry and is therefore treated as an administrative stamp only.
