Drafted under the Military Service Act, he enlisted at Montreal on 7 August 1918 and served in Canada with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment and the 4th Battalion, Canadian Garrison Regiment. He was discharged at Montreal on 21 November 1918 on demobilization of the C.E.F.; his character and conduct were recorded as Good.
