Romuald Lefebvre was born at Saint-Chrysostome, Quebec, on 19 February 1895. A single Roman Catholic labourer living at 310 Cartier Street in Montreal, he was drafted under the Military Service Act in 1918 and served as a Private with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment. His service was entirely in Canada, and he was discharged at Montreal on 11 September 1918 on demobilization.

Military Service Act medical examination placed him in Category C1. The medical sheet records weight 134 lb, brown complexion, dark eyes and brown hair, and notes a history of syphilis about two months previously.
