Notes
Born at Montreal, Quebec, with St-Henri specified on the personnel-selection record. He completed Grade 8, left school at about age 14, and worked for about seven years in the grocery trade, advancing from messenger boy to branch-store manager. Immediately before military service he worked at the Laurier Hotel in Montreal as an office clerk. He was bilingual in French and English. Military assessments described him as a trained infantry soldier and qualified clerk; he completed map reading/field sketching and clerk training. He enjoyed football, read adventure stories, and was active in church youth-group activities. Rehabilitation planning after discharge recommended accountancy/bookkeeping training.
