All persons who give credit to officers and soldiers do so at their own risk, is the announcement made by the Department of Militia and Defense at Ottawa, for the benefit of those people who run bills with the men in khaki, and then depend on the government to help collect them. The department has been in receipt of several applications from tradesmen and individuals asking assistance in the recovery of debts of officers and men of the C.E.F. or of the active militia, Sergeants messes, regimental canteens, etc. Hence the department has considered it advisable to inform the public that the military authorities have no power to enforce payment of debts and are unable to assist in their recovery.
