BLINDED BY TEAR SHELLS
Pte. J. H. Worsfold in English Hospital - Blind for Nine Days.
Although no official word has reached Mrs. J. Worsfold, of 42 Gowan avenue, Todmorden, regarding her nephew, Pte. J. J. Worsfold, she has been informed that he is in hospital in Sheffield, England, suffering from the effects of lachramatory shells. He was blind for nine days, but there are hopes that he will recover his sight completely.
Pte. Worsfold enlisted in July last year and spent the winter following at Brantford1, where he trained as a signaller, but on reaching England in June of this year he was transferred to another battalion. He was in France three months before being invalided. Pte. Worsfold was born in Woolwich, England, nineteen years ago, but had been in Canada nine years. His father has been ten months in France with the C.A.S.C.1 His uncle, Pte. J. H. Culver, of the 92nd Battalion, was killed in action on September 26th, and twelve other relatives are in the British army.
