Was Student at Collegiate and Served in Famous 28th Battalion.

Superintendent McGibbon of the Royal North-West Mounted Police, yesterday received the sad news that his second son, Lieut. John Walter McGibbon, had been killed in action.

Lieut. McGibbon was attached to the 68th Battalion when it left Regina.  On arriving in Europe he transferred to the famous 28th Battalion under the Command of Colonel Embury1 of Regina, and it was while in action with that battalion in the early part of this month that Lieut. McGibbon was killed.

The news of the death of Lieut. McGibbon will come as a shock to a large circle of friends in the city and in Battleford.  Lieut. McGibbon was a popular Regina boy, especially in Collegiate circles.  He was a student at the Collegiate and among the boys he was extremely popular.  He was only nineteen years of age and gave promise of a brilliant future, especially in matters military.

Superintendent McGibbon has two other sons serving with the colors, one with the Strathcona Horse and now in France and the other with the 152nd Battalion, Weyburn, which battalion will, it is believed, leave shortly for Europe.

Superintendent McGibbon is one of the oldest and most respected officers of the famous Mounted Police force.  He has served in the force since June of 1880, and is well-known throughout the entire west.
