THE MILITARY MEDAL
NEW AWARD FOR BRAVERY IN THE FIELD.
A Royal Warrant is published in the London Gazette instituting a. new medal for “bravery in the field” which is to be known as “The Military Medal.” The institution of this new award was foreshadowed by Mr. Asquith in the House of Commons on February 24.
The Military Medal, which will be of silver, is to be awarded to non-commissioned officers and men for individual or associated acts of bravery on the recommendation of a Commander-in-Chief in the Field. It will bear on the obverse the Royal Effigy, and on ‘the reverse the words “For bravery in the. Field” encircled by a wreath surmounted by the Royal Cipher and a Crown. It is to be worn immediately before all war medals on the left breast, the ribbon being dark blue with three white and two crimson strips alternating in the centre. A bar will be awarded to non-commissioned officers and men who have already won the medal further acts of bravery.
